As an expert in health optimization, Dr. Mulcahy can provide recommendations based on your health history and functional labs. As an expert in yourself, you can be successful at implementing them! This is where a Functional Health Coach can help.
Health coaches are behavior change experts. We support clients in finding their own strategies and motivation for change, help them overcome obstacles, and implement the protocols that have been prescribed by the doctor. We don’t operate on the “expert model” that’s so common in healthcare. We don’t lecture, prescribe, or simply dispense advice. Instead, we empower others to make the choice for health, including healthier behaviors, for themselves.
Functional Health Coaches are also trained in Functional Health, the foundation of Functional Medicine, which makes us perfect liaisons between you and Dr. Mulcahy. As Patient Care Coordinators, we help you with the logistics of following your personalized care plan, increasing your success!
Health coaches can work one-on-one with clients to support them as they embrace healthier lifestyle strategies and implement their care plan, or they can work with a group of like-minded individuals. This teamwork approach embraces the power of community, allowing you to learn and support others, brainstorm and problem-solve different perspectives, while increasing your accountability and reducing your cost. No worries if you come to a group without a personalized care plan. We integrate the knowledge you need to tweak your path toward improved wellness.
In short, it’s extremely effective! Health coaching has been shown to:
The Functional Health Coaches at Boost have all received rigorous training and are certified. The training includes up-to-date functional health protocols, as well as training in behavior change that includes such things as Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change, and Appreciative Inquiry, as well as other science based techniques.
The role of a health coach is centered on supporting his or her clients’ efforts to grow and change. The health coach’s main focus is on helping others reach their self-developed health goals.
Health coaches do not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or provide psychological therapeutic interventions. They may provide expert guidance in areas in which they hold active, nationally recognized credentials and may offer resources from nationally recognized authorities.
If you'd like to work with a health coach and obtain a personalized care plan, schedule an Integrative Consult with Dr. Mulcahy. A health coach will accompany you during your consult, taking notes so you may be present with Dr. Mulcahy, support you after your session with reflecting on what you've learned and determine your next steps, and provide an hour of support after, as a Patient Care Coordinator and/or a Functional Health Coach, based on your needs and goals.
If cost is a concern, or you prefer the power of the group, join our next Functional Health Group.
